CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 28, 2015) – Johnny and Felicia Allen will welcome several hundred men’s and women’s college basketball coaches from across the nation to Charlotte this weekend for their sixth annual A STEP UP professional development symposium hosted by Felicia Hall Allen & Associates. A Step Up was specifically designed for college basketball assistant coaches to allow them to gather in a professional will take place at the Omni Charlotte City Center May 1-3.
Friday evening nationally regarded search firms representatives Bill Carr, CarrSports, LLC and Jeff Schemmel, Collegiate Sports Solutions will offer insights to coaches about how to get on the radar of a search and leave a lasting impression in the interview. A networking reception will follow.
Johnson C. Smith University athletic director and head men’s basketball coach Steve Joyner will greet coaches at the Brayboy Gymnasium on Friday, May 1 at 12:30 pm for an on-court basketball skills development clinic. Some of the facilitators include former ACC Coach and new head coach at DePaul University, Dave Leitao, new to the SEC University of Tennessee assistant coach Rob Lanier, former NBA Coach Brendan Suhr and former University of Kentucky Head Coach and long time Tennessee Assistant, currently at Louisiana Tech University, assistant coach Mickie DeMoss.
On Saturday, May 2 at 8:30 am Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Coach and WNBA Championship Indiana Fever, former head coach Lin Dunn will deliver the Legends Series opening keynote, sponsored by the NCAA, at the Legends Breakfast. Regarded as one of the most successful women’s basketball coaches in history, Dunn led the Fever to five trips to the conference finals and a pair of appearances in the WNBA Finals. 2015 NCAA Final Four assistant coaches South Carolina Gamecock, Nikki McCray and former Maryland Terrapin, Tina Langley now Rice Head Coach will share with their coaching colleagues thoughts about building a championship culture and team players.
ESPN SEC Network’s Maria Taylor will moderate several sessions while current basketball analysts Nell Fortner and LaChina Robinson will share what they’ve seen and heard behind the scenes this season. University of Maryland Senior Associate Athletic Director, Damon Evans will conclude the 3-day event on Sunday, May 3 at 11 a.m.
